Homework 4/5/10-4/9/10

Math: Do 30 minutes of Math, five nights per week, completing all corrections before moving on to new material. ALL CALCULATIONS MUST BE DONE IN YOUR MATH FOLDER; put in the generic formula (if there is one) and solve sequentially, substituting one thing at a time. IF YOU DO NOT SHOW ALL CALCULATIONS, YOU WILL COMPLETE THEM IN LUNCH BUNCH. If you have problems with homework, please call me between 7:00pm and 9:00 pm. MATH UNIT REVIEW GRAPHS AND FOLDERS WILL BE COLLECTED ON TUESDAY, MARCH, 23rd.

Reading/Writing:
Read Pages 139 - 155 of The Lost Mother.

Science:
Wear old clothes for a dissection.

High School Biology:

High School Biology:

Tuesday: Review for test.
Thursday: Test on Chapter 8. Study lab handouts as well as class notes.

Science folders will be collected on Tuesday, March 23rd. Make sure that all assignments are filed under the appropriate divider, and that you can account for all work. As I’ve mentioned, your folder will count as a test grade.

As always, if you have questions about material, or if you need help with anything, you can see me every day at lunch, before or after school, or you may call me in the evening between 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Science Fair Project 6-wk. Experiment: 4/21/10

Groups 5 will be videotaped with their six week Science Fair Experiments on Wednesday, April 21 during Science Class. Students will be graded on a backboard and a 4 minute well-rehearsed presentation with 1 minute for questions. All written work should be in the student's own words with the exception of quoted material or graphs which should have a source referenced.

The evening of April 21st will be Family and Friends Night from 6:30-8:00p.m. when parents, relatives and friends can come and be dazzled by students' presentations. Students will provide a theme-related SNACK that evening to share with their audience.

Homework March 29-April 2, 2010

Math: No math homework. Books and folders collected.

Reading: No homework
Writing: No homework Reading/Writing folders collected

Science3: Turn in your FINAL Science Research Paper. No homework. Science folders collected.
We will do a chicken leg and foot dissection on Thursday, April 1, during Reading block.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 IS "IN-SCHOOL SNOW DAY." You may wear pajamas or sweats for an in class "snow" day after turning in your science research paper. We will spend the day with movies: Mr. Bean's Holiday, Minority Report, The Sixth Sense and The Blind Side and board games. Please have your Ma Dukes Lunch Order Form and money completed for TUESDAY, March 30th. Please be sure to include the tip! It's a fun day and someone's got to do it!!!

Thursday, April l: Read and outline Pages 163-174. Complete the 2 page handout on complex animals. Test on Chapter 8 on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

Read over your grasshopper lab hand outs for a quiz on the dissection on Thursday, April 8, 2010.

Congratulations to Max Petersen and Lily Bailey!

Max Petersen and Lily Bailey read their DAR essays at the Samuel Holten House in Danvers on Sunday, March 14th during the local level awards ceremony. Max won Best 8th grade Essay and Lily won Honorable Mention for the 6th grade Essay. Both students won at the local and state levels for their perspectives as a settler (Max) and a Chinese worker (Lily) as the golden spike was struck to unite the two sections of the Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Peak. Each student received a medal, a certificate and a flag, and had their pictures taken with members of the General Israel Putnam Chapter of the DAR for their wonderful work. Congratulations, Max and Lily!!

March Vacation Homework

Math: Two nights of math, 30 minutes each.

Reading/Writing: No homework, other than being prepared for your Elements of a Short Story Quiz (20 questions) on Tuesday.

Wordly Wise: First 20 words of your new list, spelling only. Extra Credit word: zinc

Science: Review your final draft of your Science Research paper for editing and for fleshing out sections. Remember, your paper must be 8 pages (6 fully written pages with 1 inch margins, top, bottom, sides, plus a title page and a bibliography page.)
Arial 12 font; no indentations for paragragphs (block style)and only one single space between paragraphs.

Nick and Zach: please take Science Test which was not finished.

ALL FOLDERS WILL BE COLLECTED ON TUESDAY, 3/23/10. Please make sure that all papers are put in the proper divider and that each folder has LINED PAPER. A well organized folder with all of the papers you have received and your class notes will get you an "A" as a test grade!!!!!

Your Biology folders will be collected on Tuesday, 3/23/10. Please make sure they are completed (look at the check list I gave you in the front of your folder for what should be included.)

Tuesday: Science in the News article. Be prepared to discuss an article which you have read before hand.
