Spelling Bee on February 16th!!

Groups 4, 5G and 5B will be taking a short break from Wordly Wise to prepare for a Spelling Bee. Students will be using an actual list from the 1984 Scripps Spelling Bee! They will be tested ONLY on spelling of 15-20 words, not vocabulary and parts of speech, each week. Finally, on Tuesday, February 16th, we will have a live Spelling Bee between the three groups from 1p.m.-2:00pm.

Math: Do 30 minutes of Math, five nights per week, completing all corrections before moving on to new material. ALL CALCULATIONS MUST BE DONE IN YOUR MATH FOLDER; put in the generic formula (if there is one) and solve sequentially, substituting one thing at a time. Science Research Paper Due Wed. 3/31/10

Group 5G will be putting together an 8 page Research Paper in stages:
On 1/27/10 - Sources are due: 2 books, no more than 2 internet
On 2/3/0 - an outline is due
On 2/10/10 - draft of the first two pages are due
On 2/17/10 - draft of first four pages are due
On 2/24/10 - draft of the first six pages are due
On 3/3/10 - draft of the eight page paper is due
First draft of the final paper is due.
Final paper with bibliography is due on 3/31/10.

We will be talking about the structure of the Research Paper in class as we go.

Your Reading/Writing Folders will be collected next Thursday, January 14, 2010. Please make sure that all work is filed in the appropriate place and that you have everything there. This will count as a test grade.


Science:
Read and outline Sections 3, 4, 5 and do questions on: Page 103, 1 & 2; Page 109, questions 1,2,3.

History:
Work on your History Day Project. Please make sure that you go to Kimberlee's blog and that you email her regarding your project topic, format of presentation (exhibit, web documentary, etc.).

Wordly Wise: On Tuesday, 1/19/10, test on Wordly Wise #11. Prepare text for next week's test on Wordly Wise #12.

Please make sure you have all books, folders and sharpened pencils for class.

Mid-Term Exam: Thursday, 1/14/10 at 9:00 a.m. HAND IN YOUR COMPLETED AND ORGANIZED SCIENCE FOLDER BEFORE YOU TAKE THE MID-TERM. Two sharpened pencils are all you need. Please be sure to eat breakfast so you will be alert and have energy for the day. RELAX! Everything on the exam is what you have had, and what we have discussed in the review.

Science Class: 1/13/10

We will be trying to make our own indicators for acids and bases in Science class on Wednesday, 1/13/10. Students will be bringing in the following items:
Will- lemon juice; Eddie-red peppers, David-blueberries; Richard - beets; Maya - strawberries ; Jessica- raspberries; Nick-cherries; Bailey - turmeric (in the spice section); Kevin - tomato juice; Allie - pomegranate; Max - orange juice. Students should wear old clothes or art smocks as we will be dealing with juice that stains.

Science Fair Project Dates

Group 5G will be videotaping their Science Fair Project (a 6 week data collection of a tested variable)on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 during Science Class. Family and Friends Night will be held on April 21, 2010 from 6:30pm-8:00pm when parents, family and friends can come and be dazzled by the presentations on the students' various research projects!

Your Science Folder will be collected for grading. Please make sure it is organized and complete. Read Pages 82-97 (Sections 1 & 2) and do Questions 1,2,3 on Page 89, and Questions 1,2,3 on Page 97.

History: Please organize and make sure your folder is complete for grading. It will be collected on Tuesday, 1/12/10.

Wordly Wise:
No Wordly Wise Test for Tuesday 1/12/10! All Wordly Wise Texts should be turned in to me for grading.

Make sure that you have your Biology book and folder with you for every class. YOUR BIOLOGY FOLDER WILL BE COLLECTED ON THURSDAY, BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR MID-TERM EXAM.

MID-TERM WEEK: Please come prepared on Thursday with 2 sharpened pencils and your Science Folder which will be turned in for grading. Remember that your completed and organized folder counts as a test grade.
